Description

Summary of main responsibilities of the Laboratory / Metrology Technician role:

  • Undertake component, solder joint & weld cross section analysis
  • Carry out stress analysis on varied equipment/processes using strain gauges and relevant hardware/software to evaluate risk to components
  • X-ray analysis of new and current production parts to establish conformance
  • Contribute to MSA and Gauge R&R analysis of Lab metrology equipment
  • Teardown analysis of products as per Customer agreement
  • Use of Co-ordinate measurement machines
  • Use of high magnification optical aids (microscope, Mantis)
  • Support Process, Product, Test, and Quality Engineering requests as and when required
  • Complete and document daily/weekly/monthly measurement/inspection/analysis routines
  • Contribute to the running and upkeep of the plant calibration system
  • Determine ESD acceptance of items to be used in controlled areas
  • Feedback potential issues to relevant departments for improvement. (Production, Test Eng, Process Quality, SQA)
  • Provide daily shift reports
  • Document all inspection/measurement data and provide technical reports
  • Maintain organization of analysis areas to meet or exceed housekeeping and WIP objectives
  • Promote safe working practice
  • To undertake any other duties of which the knowledge, skills and experience required fall within the post holder’s expected capability and commensurate with the post holder’s position within the company.

Education / Qualifications Required of the Laboratory / Metrology Technician role:

  • ONC in Electronics, Metrology or Manufacturing discipline.

Experience Required of the Laboratory / Metrology Technician role:

  • Excellent working knowledge of metrology and test equipment e.g. Vernier’s, gauge blocks, torque meters, DMMs, balances, etc
  • Use of CMM measurement equipment (PC-DMIS software)
  • Solder inspection experience
  • Working knowledge of basic computer systems and programs
  • Willingness to participate on a team and drive continuous improvement activities

Skills Required of the Laboratory / Metrology Technician role:

  • Working knowledge of basic computer systems and programs
  • Willingness to participate on a team and drive continuous improvement activities
  • Experience in a high volume SMT electronics production environment
  • Ability to interpret drawings to determine dimensional analysis datums and specifications for measurement using a variety of metrology equipment
  • Visually recognise PCB assembly errors to IPC-A-610 standards
